I had a blast last Sunday watching Supper Bowl XLIII and the Steelers fantastic win over the Cardinals. But I have to admit that the commercials are always my favorite part of the Super Bowl. I had a couple of favorites and one in particular happen win the Doritos ad contest.
The commercial depicts a man using a snow globe as a crystal ball. After predicting free chips for the office, he hurls it through the glass on a vending machine. One of his associates gives it a shot and predicts a promotion for himself, but when he hurls it, it hits his boss right in the family jewels.
I know a lot of people who got a lot laughs at out of this commercial, but the two brothers who produced the commercial are laughing all the way to the bank.
Dave and Joe Herbert, two unemployed brothers and aspiring filmmakers had their dreams come true by a bag of Doritos. The two won the $1,000,000 ad campaign from Dorritos Super Bowl film contest.
The winning commercial was made for less than $2,000 and was filmed at a YMCA. A 1,000,000 return on a $2,000 is what I am talking about.
Before winning the brothers had all kinds of thoughts of what they would do with the winnings. But the morning after they still weren't sure how thy were going to spend their loot. on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Dave admitted, "But now that we have won it and it's real, it take more thinking."
They eventually decided on launching a board game this year called Triviathon as well as develop a film script.
They also plan to give some o the winnings to the film's cast and crew, who were only fed for the day long shoot.
The brothers were making amateur films since they were kids. Joe says, "We don't feel lucky, we feel talented. Joe continued to say, "Our families, especially our wives, have been a big help. And it's unbelievable we were able to do something so big, so fast"
I think that's awesome. It great to see when people are able to realize their dreams.
