I heard Donald Trump on the Ryan Seacrest show on Friday. Donald Trump, whose show The Apprentice starts its eighth season, said the same thing we here at Financial Elite say all the time "Things are going to get better". They always do no matter what. This has all happened before and it will happen again.
There is optimism out there and CNN Money shows us 9 individuals in their story "We're doing just fine" who feel the same:

Gwen Brandenburg: Use the crisis to create a clean slate.
Brandi Shigley: Do what you love, and love what you do.
Brandon Loveridge: Start a debt snowball.
Sharon Wilson: Focus on how much you save, not how much you earn.
Michael Kirk: Let change create opportunity.
Dan Catlin: Invest in lowering your energy dependency.
Robert Crumpler: Lives small and keeps investing.
Robert Standik: Train in a stable profession.
